Currently, home economics is a compulsory subject for all students from the fifth grade to high school.
Ways of life vary and are supported by each individual’s own sense of values. That is why it is important for each child to find the answers for themselves in their home economics classes.
The daily lesson planning for home economics teachers is not so easy. Home economics teachers devise lessons that are easy to understand and informative, by using familiar teaching materials so that each child can see the lesson as his or her own. The “knowledge” of these home economics teachers is richly accumulated within themselves as they gain years of experience as teachers. However, it seems that there are few opportunities for this “knowledge” to be passed onto people other than the original owners, namely the teachers themselves.
This is because there is often a single home economics teacher in each school, and there are few opportunities to discuss and exchange information about daily lessons.
We decided to launch this website in order to create a place where we can all share the diverse “knowledge” of home economics teachers backed up by their experiences.
HELCY is an acronym for the Home Economics Lesson (Learning) Community in Yokohama. HELCY is a learning community that focuses on home economics lessons.
On this website, we will post various teaching materials provided by home economics teachers and researchers that can be used as hints for home economics classes. At the same time, we will introduce hints for creating lessons and suggestions for improving study plans.
HELCY is designed to make home economics teachers think, “Creating lessons is fun!” HELCY is a platform for home economics teachers to exchange information so that they can think and share their thoughts alike.
We hope that home economics teachers and those who are interested in home economics education will visit this website, share their “knowledge” related to the study of enriched life, and experience the present reality of home economics education.
